Do UK citizens need ID Cards?
Posted: November 13th, 2003
By: Colin Coates

Almost all countries in the European Union use them as do Americans, but here in the UK there hasn't been any use for them until now, so says the Home Secretary David Blunkett, who has outlined plans to make ID Cards compulsory for all UK citizens by the year 2013. Are ID cards a necessity or a waste of our money?

I totally hate the whole big brother thing and the way public services control our lives nowadays. However I also feel storngly about social security scroungers and illegal immigrants, so if ID cards stopped all that I have to say that am in favour of them.

i agree with paul...next the computer chip...then all cash to be 'eletronically' charged to that chip, no cash in hand.....everythingon computer....new world order peeps...recognise

Paul commented on 07 Jun, 2004 - 17:25
On top of that, it will be computer-chips inserted under our skin in a few more years if we let them do as they please.

NO. Our taxes should be spent on what they are meant to be, to improve our hospitals and schools, which in my opinion do not work because of a lack of funds. Rather that than on the government's prefered lifestyles, big houses and fancy cars.

If we must have id cards i dont think we should be made to pay for them and we shouldnt have to carry them with us where ever we go.

Commissioner commented on 19 Mar, 2004 - 15:19
We would be foolish to ignore the need to carry ID cards with the threat of terrorist attacks we face these days. Its a brave new world peeps and we no longer live in the days when you could leave your door unlocked throughout the night without fear of being burgled. British citizens need to stand up and be counted and the rest will be picked up by the law.

nothing to fear no problem carrying

I don't know what the big deal is? So what we have to have ID cards, it won't change a thing so why make a fuss. I would rather worry about tax rises by stealth that the government is becoming so good at. It's like the fox hunting thing, a decoy or chaff to deflect our attention from the real issues.

LOLLI commented on 14 Nov, 2003 - 22:01
The biometric ID cards will have fingerprints and Iris scans of every person in the country. Great, now we don't even need a criminal record to have our fingerprints and iris scan stored on a database. Doesn't that sound worrying to anyone?

Stanley commented on 13 Nov, 2003 - 12:56
They will be a monumental waste of money in my opinion and they won't stop illegals from working in this country because most of the jobs illegals get are all cash in hand and employers know full well they are in this country illegally.
