Amidst heavy media attention
and a royal row between the house of Windsor and redundant Royal butler
Paul Burrell, his book 'A Royal Duty' has been released and is set
to be a top seller. Burrell calls the book a tribute to Diana but
the Royals are calling it treachery. What are your thoughts? |

He rose from humble origins to be the closest
male confidant of one of the most famous and much-loved women of this
century. According to the former Royal butler Paul Burrell the late
Princess of Wales once referred to him as her 'Rock', someone she
could tell all her problems and secrets to in confidence, someone
she trusted.
Some of those secrets are now in the public domain
with the release of his controversial book 'A Royal Duty' despite
the strenuous objections from the House of Windsor and the accusations
of treachery by Princes William and Harry.
Paul Burrell insisted his book is a "loving tribute" to the late princess
and to correct the "lies and untruths" about Diana.
However, during one of his many interviews he revealed a disaffected
side to his motives for writing the book, saying had the Royal family
been kinder to him after the collapse of his trial for theft the book
may never have appeared.
Mr Burrell was accused of stealing personal possessions from the Princess
of Wales but the case against him was thrown out after intervention
from the Queen.

THE DISCUSSION |
The heavily publicised trial has clearly upset him
and robbed him of a huge chunk of his life so could his book be his
long-awaited payback bullet aimed at the House of Windsor?
Things certainly started turning nasty in the run up to the book release
as the Mirror Newspaper serialised extracts including shocking revelations.
Extracts of private letters written to and from Diana made the front
pages of most daily newspapers and news bulletins. One particular
extract claimed the Princess predicted she would be killed off in
a car accident. She also wrote a letter claiming she had been shot
at in Hyde Park.
This made grim and devastating reading to the Royal family and in
particular Princes William and Harry, who in an unprecedented move
released an official statement pleading with Burrell to stop the publication
of such hurtful material but also accused him of a "cold and overt
betrayal".
Burrell did agree to meet with the Princes but he slammed their accusations
of betrayal and told them to 'Grow Up'.
Whether or not the Princes meet Mr Burrell and whatever the outcome
of such a meeting nothing can now stop the book, which is currently
being snapped up in bookshops all over the country.
However, if the Royal family want to reduce the risk of further revelations
in follow-up books such a meeting may have to go ahead and as things
stand right now the butler has the upper-hand. |
